Bulldogs Grab Home Split with 9th-Ranked 'Hounds

Sunday Results:
Game 1 (INDY 8-0) || Game 2 (Truman 1-0)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - The Truman softball team celebrated Senior Day with a split against No. 9 Indianapolis at the Bulldog Softball Park, rallying for a 1-0 win in game two after losing the opener, 8-0.

Truman (30-12, 19-7 GLVC) mustered just four hits on the day against the Greyhound's (39-9, 24-4 GLVC) only pitcher used, Morgan Foley; however, it was junior Nikki Moss' speed on the base-paths that flustered the 'Hounds in the finale, as the Bulldogs cashed in a split after Moss scampered home on a two-base wild pitch in the fifth inning of game two.

Prior to the doubleheader, the Bulldogs honored seniors Hannah Wehar, Andrea Klipsch, Liz Leath, and Ally McReynolds as the 2015 senior class.

The Bulldogs (30-12, 19-7 GLVC) will play one final regular season doubleheader on Monday afternoon, beginning at 2 p.m. against Saint Joseph's (Ind.) College at the Bulldog Softball Park.

Game 1 Recap
The Bulldogs used until the last out of the game to land their first base-runner, as 9th-ranked Indianapolis built an 8-0 lead and held firm for a run-rule, five-inning victory in the first of two games on Sunday.

Indianapolis scored once in the first, three times in the third, and four times in the fifth to take an 8-0 lead heading to the bottom half. Meanwhile, it wasn't until junior Whitney Richardson knocked a single back up the middle with two outs in the inning before Truman broke up Foley's perfect game effort. Freshman Ashley Murphy would then reach on an error by the Greyhounds' third baseman, but Foley induced a tapper back to her to close the game.

Richardson went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Truman, who started junior Kindra Henze (15-7; 4 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 3 SO, 1 BB) in the loss.

Game 2 Recap
An infield single and two wild pitches gave the Bulldogs all they would need – and get – in game two, as the Bulldogs capitalized in a true pitcher's duel to take a 1-0 decision in game two.

As Truman junior Kelsea Dorsey and Indy's Foley posted zeroes across the line score through the first four-and-a-half innings, the Bulldogs got action going with two outs in the fifth. Moss singled to short and beat out a close play at first to reach, then moved to second on an 0-2 count wild pitch. Then, on a 1-2 count, the pitch hit the dirt again, and while the Greyhound catcher struggled to locate the ball, Moss never hit the brakes and came home to score for a 1-0 lead.

Truman again threatened in the sixth by loading the bases; however, the purple and white left all three runners aboard heading to the seventh.

Dorsey, meanwhile, gave up a one-out single but induced a pop-out and a fly-out to end the game, as she improved to 15-4 on the season. The junior scattered five hits in her complete game effort, striking out three and walking three on the day.

Moss, Leath, and McReynolds each recorded base hits in game two.
