Women's Soccer, Maryville Battle to Scoreless Draw

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - - A hard-fought defensive battle resulted in a scoreless draw in the 2015 Great Lakes Valley Conference opener for both the Truman and Maryville women's soccer teams on Friday.

Neither the Bulldogs (1-1-1, 0-0-1 GLVC) nor the Saints (1-1-1, 0-0-1 GLVC) could find pay-dirt in the 110 minutes of action, as the teams combined for 11 total shots on goal. Truman's Katie Mattingly made six saves, while MU's Madison Buelow posted five saves of her own.

Each team had a golden chance in the overtime sessions to end the game, as MU's Allison Verville rocketed a shot just to the outside of the right post 20 seconds into the first OT. Then, in the 104th minute, Truman's Stephanie Williams had her attempt slide just past the same right post on the west end of the field – keeping the match knotted at zero.

Truman's Alexis Heffernan led all players with five shots taken, while Allison Lockett, Megan Whitehead, and Kacie Trueman each put one shot on goal.

The Bulldogs will look for their first GLVC win of 2015 on Sunday at 12 p.m. when the purple and white visit the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
