Hanson's Free Kick Goal Gets Women's Soccer Road Draw

ST. LOUIS - - Jessica Hanson's free kick goal in the 73rd minute picked the Truman women's soccer team up off the mat, but the Bulldogs couldn't find the break-through goal to earn a road victory and were forced to settle for a 1-1 road draw at Lindenwood.

Quick Recap:
  • Final: Truman 1, Lindenwood 1
  • Records: Truman (2-1-2) || Lindenwood (1-1-2)
  • Scoring Summary:
44:47 – LWU – Alexis Robbers (2); unassisted
72:26 – TSU – Jessica Hanson (1); unassisted

Match Breakdown:
  • The teams played a back-and-forth first half and appeared to be headed into the break scoreless, but Lindenwood's Robbers converted in front of the goal with 13 seconds left on the first half clock to put the Lions on top, 1-0.
  • Truman came out of the intermission firing, getting a pair of shots and a corner kick in the first few minutes, before Hanson stepped up after a yellow-card inducing foul from 25-yards out and buried the shot to knot the game at 1-1.
  • The Bulldogs kept attacking, with Megan Whitehead hitting the post just moments later and Hanson putting two more shots on goal next to one by Kacie Trueman, but overtime awaited.
  • After really nothing got going for Truman in the first session, Alexis Heffernan had a shot saved in the 102nd minute, and two late corner kicks – including one with seven seconds left – were futile.
  • Truman out-shot LWU 12-10 overall and 7-3 on net. Katie Mattingly, the reigning GLVC Defensive Player of the Week, made two saves.

Extra Notes:
  • This was the third match out of five in a 10-day window for the Bulldogs, with the purple and white remaining undefeated in the stretch at 1-0-2.
  • The Bulldogs evened the all-time series with Lindenwood at 5-5-2, winning their third straight against the Lions.
  • The goal marked the third of Hanson's collegiate career, as the senior back had scored one apiece in both 2013 (Soph.) and 2014 (Jr.) seasons.
  • The seven corner kicks earned marked the most by the Bulldogs since receiving 10 last season in mid-October against Lewis.

What's Up Next:
The Bulldogs welcome Lewis to Kirksville on Friday afternoon, getting back into GLVC play with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff against the Flyers.
