SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The #18 Drury Lady Panthers ended Truman's four-game victory streak with a 72-59 win over the Bulldogs on Saturday in Springfield, Missouri.
 
The Bulldogs are now 14-7 overall and 8-3 in the GLVC while Lady Panthers maintained possession of first place in the GLVC West with a 9-2 record and 16-3 overall mark.
 
How It Happened:
  • Courtney Strait's three-pointer at the midway part of the first quarter gave Truman a 10-9 lead however the Lady Panthers would answer with back-to-back treys and finished the quarter on a 12-3 run to lead 21-13.
  • Drury increased their lead to 10 but the Bulldogs went back-to-back-to-back from long range with Mackenzie Jerks, Brooke Bailey and Linnea Schmelzer all hitting threes during an 11-0 run to put the Bulldogs back on top 28-26.
  • Alice Heinzler jumped Drury back in front with a triple and the Lady Panthers ended the half on a 7-0 run to lead 36-30.
  • Drury scored the first four out of the locker room to lead by 10.
  • Bailey made another three to cut the lead down to seven with 5:28 left in the third however consecutive triples by Briana Jones pushed the margin back out to 13.
  • Drury would outscore the Bulldogs 20-11 in the third quarter to take control of the game.
  • The Lady Panthers led by as many as 18 in the fourth quarter but an 11-3 run got them to within 10 with 2:50 to play.
 
Key Stats/Game Notes:
  • Drury controlled the glass with 43 rebounds to Truman's 26. Annie Armstrong led the Lady Panthers with 11 boards.
  • The Lady Panthers hit 12 three-pointers and shot 50% from beyond the arc while Truman went 6-of-17 from three. Five Drury players hit at least two three-pointers with Alice Heinzler knocking down three.
  • Michalina Tomczak led Truman with 12 points and Kasey Gassensmith finished with 10.
  • Heather Harman led four Lady Panthers in double-figures with 14 points.
  • The Drury bench outscored the Bulldogs 37-20.
  • Rachel Steinhoff led Truman with six assists and Courtney Strait added four. Tomzak added two more blocks to close in on second in Truman's career block chart with 104.
  • It was the ninth straight victory by Drury over the Bulldogs in the all-time series.
  • The loss drops Truman to a game back of first place in the GLVC West behind Quincy and Drury. The Bulldogs own a three-game lead on fourth place Rockhurst.
 
 
Up Next:
Truman will face the third place team in the East Division on Thursday night when they travel to Saint Joseph's College (Ind.) for a 5:30 p.m. It will be the first of two for the 'Dogs in the Hoosier State as they will wrap up the four-game road trip at Indianapolis on Saturday.
