Box Score (PDF)
Season Stats

KIRKSVILLE, Mo . - - Senior guard Andrew Vander Zwaag connected on nine three-pointers, coming just one shy of equaling the Truman State University men's basketball program's single-game record, while the Bulldog men trailed for less than a minute in a 95-79 victory against the University of Illinois Springfield on Saturday afternoon in Gen. John J. Pershing Arena.

Vander Zwaag hit all five three-point tries in the first half and knocked down his first attempt in the second half en route to finishing with 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting from three-point range. He was set up throughout the day often by junior guard Cory Myers, who set a new career-high with 11 assists to go along with 13 points and six steals. The 11 assists were third-most in program history, while the six steals finished just one behind the school record.

The game resembled a track meet in the first half, with the Bulldogs taking a 45-43 lead into the break behind 15 points from Vander Zwaag and 11 points from junior guard Dwight Sistrunk, Jr. After the Bulldogs led by just four at 52-48, the Bulldogs hit the switch, scoring seven in a row and 13 of the next 15 points to take a 62-50 lead with 12:49 to play. The lead would drop to as few as seven with eight minutes to play, but another Bulldog run pushed the lead to 79-63 with 5:41 on the clock. The Bulldogs would keep it at double-figures the rest of the way on the way to the 95-79 final score.

In picking up its eighth consecutive victory, Truman shot 49.3% (34-of-69) from the floor for the game, including 13-of-29 (44.8%) from three-point range. The Bulldogs recorded 22 assists and turned it over just six times, improving their already-GLVC-best marks in both turnover margin and assist-to-turnover ratio. UIS (6-8, 0-4 GLVC), meanwhile shot 47.5% (28-of-59) from the floor, including 9-of-19 (47.4%) from three-point range. The Prairie Stars held a slight edge in rebounding (36-34), but Truman scored 20 points off 15 UIS turnovers.

In addition to Vander Zwaag's game- and career-high 27 points, Sistrunk Jr., finished with 17 points, and both Myers and junior guard Kyle Kanaskie poured in 13 points. Sistrunk Jr., junior forward Billy Daniel, and junior forward Connor Erickson shared the team-high with six rebounds apiece.

Jamall Millison led the Prairie Stars offensively with 16 points.

The Bulldogs – who sit in a tie atop the GLVC West division standings at 4-1 in league play and 12-3 overall – will hit the road for a challenging road trip next Thursday and Saturday, beginning at No. 11 Bellarmine (11-2, 4-0 GLVC) at 7 p.m. (CST) on Thursday, Jan. 14.
