Game Stats (HTML)

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The 2nd-ranked Grand Valley (Mich.) State Lakers flexed their muscle in the first six minutes with two interceptions and a blocked punt to race out to a 21-0 lead and went on to end Truman's five-game winning streak 41-3 in a non-conference matchup between the two schools.

Truman started on a positive with Jordan Salima returning the opening kickoff 37 yards out to midfield and the Bulldogs picked up a first down on a 12-yard pass from Jaden Barr to Joey Schenk on the first play to move the ball into the Lakers end of the field.

Salima gained three on the ground and Jordan Jorgenson caught a 5-yard pass to set up a third and three. On the next play, Barr rolled to his left looking for a receiver but the ball was batted out of the air and grabbed by a Laker lineman for the interceptions.

The Lakers wasted little time as their big play offense took just three plays for their first touchdown of the game, a 20-yard run by Marty Carter for the early lead.

Barr was picked off on the next drive and two plays later Carter reeled off a 38-yard run and a 14-0 lead.

The third score came on a blocked punt return by Jalen Bryant to give the Lakers a 21-0 lead with 9:44 left in the first quarter.

Grand Valley would add a 51-yard field goal and a 34-yard field goal by Joel Schipper then a 30-yard TD pass to Nick Dodson from Bart Williams to take a 34-0 lead into the locker room.

The Bulldogs would get on the board following a Taylor Manes blocked punt early in the third quarter. Danny Spencer connected from 45-yards out for his first field goal in a Truman uniform with 8:15 left in the quarter.

The Lakers got one final big play to end the scoring on a 59-yard TD pass to Dodson from Williams with 6:19 left in the third.

Grand Valley outgained the Bulldogs 522 to 127 and ran for 225 yards on 42 attempts. Carter averaged eight yards per run going for 104 yards on 13 carries.

Salima was limited for Truman with a season-low 18 yards on only 12 rushing attempts while Barr was 10-of-24 for 100 yards.

The Bulldogs will return to conference play next Saturday when they host William Jewell College for a 2 p.m. Homecoming affair at Stokes Stadium.
