RECAP: Bulldog Women Win Third Straight; Down Upper Iowa 72-61

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women's Basketball team used five three-pointers in the second quarter to erase an early deficit then kept the Upper Iowa Peacocks at bay the rest of the game in a 72-61 win on Saturday afternoon.

Rachel Edmundson led four Bulldogs in double-figures with 18 points and scored the first basket in the second quarter to get the party started. Truman trailed by six late in the first but cut the Peacock lead down to four at 13-9 at the end of the quarter. Edmundson tallied the first hoop before the Bulldogs would reel off four straight three-pointers to eventually overtake UIU.

Brooke Bailey knocked down two of her three in the quarter and later a 7-0 run by Truman gave the Bulldogs a nine-point lead at 2:43 left in the half.

The Peacocks stormed back with eight in-a-row to cut the lead down to one but Maddie Tharp beat the buzzer with a layup to put Truman up 32-29 at the break.

Ashley Hartwig had a personal 7-0 run and scored nine straight from the field in the third quarter. Hartwig finished with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds, five on the offensive glass.

A pair of free throws by Blair Klostermann cut Truman's lead down to two but Edmundson and Eleanor Lueke knocked down triples to push the lead back out to eight.

The Bulldogs finally got the lead to double-figures early in the fourth and led by as many as 17 with 4:32 left to play.

Sloane Totta and Lueke joined Edmundson and Hartwig in double figures with 12 and 11 apiece.

Truman shot 36% for the game and was 10-of-25 from long range. Sam Ofstad paced the Peacocks with 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting. UIU shot 39% for the game.

The win was the third straight for Truman and they will put that streak on the line Tuesday night with a road game at Missouri Southern State University at 5:30 p.m.
