The First Pitch:
The Bulldog Baseball team returns to a place where they have had great success over the past two years and the University of Southern Indiana for the USI Dunn Hospitality Classic. Truman will play a pair of games against the Screaming Eagles (Friday & Sunday) sandwiching by a single-game against Saint Joseph's on Saturday.

Truman is 1-3 after the opening weekend on the road. The Bulldogs dropped two to Southwest Baptist University last Saturday and split a doubleheader with Lincoln on Sunday.

USI is 2-1 and entered the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 25 poll this week at #21 after taking two of three from Grand Valley (Mich.) State at home. The Screaming Eagles finished 28-21 last season.

The Pumas are 1-2 with losses to Maryville and Trevecca Nazarene and a victory over Maryville in Nashville, Tennessee last weekend. Saint Joseph's was 24-22-1 a season ago.

Success In Evansville:
The Bulldogs are 6-1 at the USI Baseball Field and 6-2 in Evansville over the past two years.

Truman won two extra-inning games at the USI field in 2014 as part of the GLVC Tournament. After an opening round loss to Drury, the Bulldogs defeated Lewis 9-7 and Indianapolis 13-12 in 10 innings before moving across town to Bosse Field and falling to Drury again 17-5.

Last year, Truman opened up conference play against Southern Indiana and swept the defending NCAA Division II champions by scores of 7-5, 14-5, 7-1 and 10-7. The Screaming Eagles were ranked sixth last year when the teams met in Evansville.

The Bulldogs later defeated Southern Indiana 7-2 in the first round of the GLVC Tournament but the Screaming Eagles got a measure of revenge by ending the Bulldogs tournament with a 6-4 victory.

Weekend Rewind:
Southwest Baptist won both games on Saturday by scores of 6-3 and 10-5 while on Sunday; Truman took game one over Lincoln 8-4 but lost the nightcap 12-11 in 10 innings. The Bulldogs trailed by eight runs in the second game with Lincoln and forced extra innings with a four-run ninth with two-outs only to lose in the extra frame.

Junior Nick Agliolo was the star offensively for the Bulldogs going 8-for-13 (.615), driving in five runs, drawing a pair of walks and being hit by a pitch. Agliolo had two hits and at least one RBI in each of the four games played while making his Bulldog debut.

Speaking of debuts, a total of nine new players hit the field for the 'Dogs in the opening week. Four, including Agliolo, Jason Priest, Josh Abegg and Mason King started all four games. Michael Judson appeared in three and started one.

Adrian Morris, Tanner Forck, Josh Woodmansee and Brad Molski made their purple and white debut on the mound over the weekend. Morris pitched five solid innings of relief in game two against Lincoln and allowed Truman to rally from eight down to force extra innings, he took the loss with an unearned run in the 10th to get the only decision of the newcomers.

Sophomore Nate Lukas picked up the lone win as he started the first game against Lincoln. Lukas allowed only two hits in 5.1 innings pitched and struck out a career-high seven in the 8-4 win.

Home Run Homer:
The Bulldogs Dave Gambino and Jason Priest went back-to-back in the fifth inning in game one against Lincoln for the first two home runs of the season.

Player – Inning/Game (Season/Career HR)
Dave Gambino - 5th Inning Game 3 vs. Lincoln solo (1/7)
Jason Priest  - 5th Inning Game 3 vs. Lincoln solo (1/1)

Preseason Polls:
In the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll, Truman was picked third in the West Division behind Quincy and Drury. The Hawks picked up 12 first place votes and had 117 points, Drury had one first place vote and 96 total and Truman had two first place tallies and 91 total votes.

The University of Indianapolis earned 11 first place votes to sit atop the poll for the GLVC East Division with Southern Indiana gaining the other five first place votes and totaled 105 points.

This season, the GLVC will play exclusively within their divisions to decide postseason tournament berths. The top four in each Division will gain spots in the tournament to be played in Westfield, Indiana in mid May.

In national and regional polls, Truman received votes in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Poll and picked eighth in the Midwest Region in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association polls.

Up Next:
The Bulldogs are scheduled to begin a 10-game, five-date homestand beginning on March 4 against Bemidji (Minn.) State. Truman will host the Beavers for a pair then Southwest Baptist returns to complete the four-game series with them on March 8. The Bulldogs will host Lewis for four over March 12-13 and Missouri Western for two on March 15.
