Super Saturday for Truman Softball

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. - - The Truman State University softball team got two dominating pitching performances in the circle, and then provided enough pop at the plate to pick up two in-region wins on Saturday afternoon at the Music City Invitational. The Bulldogs exacted revenge against Trevecca Nazarene with a 4-0 win in the opener before dispatching Ohio Dominican by a 9-0 score in the nightcap.

The Bulldogs, who have now won three straight to get to 6-5 on the season, ran its scoreless inning streak to 21 innings by blanking both the host Trojans (6-7) and Panthers (1-6) as part of in-region action. TNU ended Truman's season in 2015 with a win in the NCAA Midwest sub-regional.

Truman scored all four of its runs against Trevecca in the first inning, as freshman Christa Reisinger led off with a single before stealing second. Sophomore Riley Cook walked in front of a single by junior Lex Van Nostrand to load the bases with no out. Sophomore Jamie Fowle singled home both Reisinger and Cook, and both she and Van Nostrand moved up to second and third two batters later on a passed ball. Then, with two outs, freshman Morgan McMahan singled the duo home, giving the Bulldogs an early four-spot.

That would be all the backup senior Kelsea Dorsey would need – and more – as she struck out 11 batters and walked just one while tossing a complete give five-hit shutout. She improved to 4-1 on the seaon with the victory. Reisinger finished with two of Truman's six hits for the game.

Then, in Saturday's finale, the Bulldogs scored once in the third on a home run by Reisinger, twice in the fourth behind a two-run shot by McMahan, three times in the fifth on RBIs by Van Nostrand, sophomore Ashley Murphy, and McMahan, and three times more in the seventh on back-to-back RBIs by Murphy and McMahan again.

Senior Kindra Henze picked up her second win in as many days in the circle, striking out 11 hitters of her own, as she allowed just four hits and two walks in a complete game shutout. Cook led all hitters by going 3-for-4, while Murphy added two more of Truman's eight hits.

The Bulldogs go for a weekend sweep on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. when they face Hillsdale (Mich.) on the TNU campus in Nashville.
