ST. LOUIS  – Two stellar pitching performances and some timely hitting allowed the Bulldog Baseball team to fight back and earn a series split with Maryville University on Sunday. Truman won game one 5-2 and grabbed the finale 6-2.

Game 1 Recap:
Tyler Spencer allowed one earned run and five hits over the course of six innings and Peter Young closed the door with his eighth save of the year as the Bulldogs downed the Saints 5-2 in the opener.

The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first while the Bulldogs used a two-out rally to ties things in the third. Mason King singled and stole second before advancing on a wild pitch to third. Dave Gambino got the key hit to right to score King but the Bulldogs left the bases loaded.

Maryville retook the lead in similar fashion in the fourth. A two-out walk, followed by a wild pitch and and RBI single to center gave the Saints the 2-1 lead.

Nick Agliolo got a one-out single to center in Truman's fifth and went to third on Gambino's double to right. Agliolo knotted the game as beat the throw home on a ball hit by Jason Priest.

King broke the tie in the sixth with a two-run double that scored Trevor Bell and Wyatt Fones.

The Bulldogs added an insurance run on a sac fly by Adam Gregorich that scored Kyle Smith, who previously tripled down the right field line.

Spencer scattered his five hits in his six innings of work while walking one and striking out three to even his record at 2-2. Young got a comebacker and two Ks for his eighth save.

Game 2 Recap:
Alex Hoffmann turned in one of his best starts in a Bulldog uniform going eight innings and allowing four hits in Truman's 6-2 victory.

Jason Priest, Brendan Trimble and Adam Gregorich all had three hits as Truman outhit the Saints 14-5. Trimble's RBI single started the scoring in the first as he drove in Nick Agliolo.

Back-to-back doubles by Dave Gambino and Priest made it 2-0 and Gregorich's RBI single scored Priest for a 3-0 lead in the sixth.

Maryville cut the lead down to one when Mitch Carriger hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. Truman responded with a three-spot in the top of the seventh with T.J. Wood starting things with a hit. Wood swiped second and third then scored on a groundout by Agliolo. Priest doubled in Gambino with two outs and Gregorich brought in Priest with a hit to close the scoring.

Hoffmann allowed one hit until Carriger's home run in the sixth and faced the minimum through the first five. Louis Niemerg doubled to right in the second but was cut down trying to stretch it into a triple on a great relay by Trevor Bell.
Hoffmann gave up a pair of singles to start the seventh but induced a double play ball and another groundout to get out of that inning. He pitched a 1-2-3 eighth with two popouts and groundout to Agliolo at short before giving way to Peter Young for the ninth. It was Hoffmann's fourth win of the season.
