KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The Truman bats just couldn't get going as the Drury Panthers won both ends of Sunday's doubleheader to split the four-game weekend series. The Panthers won game one 6-1 and game two 11-6.

The Bulldogs had only one extra base hit in the two games, a double by Trevor Bell and hit .242 as a team. After swiping eight bases the day before, the Bulldogs swiped two.  Drury's Ryan Kayhill continued his impressive weekend at the plate going 5-for-8 on the afternoon with three RBIs and hit .750 (12-of-16) for the series with six runs scored.

The Bulldogs return to conference action next weekend at Maryville University in St. Louis.

Game 1 Recap:
Both teams exchanged first inning runs with Truman leaving runners at second and third with one out in the first and wasted a leadoff single and runner at third in the second inning.

A two-out RBI hit from Ryan Wadkins put the Panthers up 2-1 after three.

It would stay that way until the seventh when Drury scored four times after the leadoff hitter was retired to bust the game open. Mason McCarville had an RBI single and Ryan Columbo drove in two more.

Trey Faulconer allowed five hits in six innings of work and Ryan Wedermyer worked a quiet seventh for the Panthers. Tyler Spencer had a solid outing for Truman as he allowed two runs through six but was also tagged with three earned runs in the seventh after he was taken out. Spencer struck out four and walked none.

Game 2 Recap:
Austin Simms shutdown the Bulldogs for eight innings as the Panthers gradually increased their lead. Drury scored a pair of runs in the first then added three in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding 8-0 lead.

Trevor Bell's infield single scored Mason King for the Bulldogs first run but Drury tacked on two more in the seventh and one in the ninth.

The Bulldogs batted around in the bottom of the ninth with Joey Gardner, Mason King and Trevor Bell driving in runs during the five-run inning.

Simms pitched eight and gave up five hits and struck out five to earn his fourth win of the season. Sam Reuter tossed four innings and was tagged with the loss.

Doubleheader Notes:
  • The Bulldogs split their second GLVC West series after winning the first two games of the set. Truman took the first two from Quincy last week before the Hawks rallied to tie the series with a doubleheader sweep on day two.
  • Nick Agliolo and Mason King led Truman for the series with five hits apiece. King and T.J. Wood scored 10 of Truman's 24 runs during the series.
  • The Bulldogs had more home runs (5) than doubles (4) for the four game series.
  • Truman was 10-of-11 in stolen bases and swiped 19 straight before Wyatt Fones was punched out on a close play in game one on Sunday.
  • Truman hit .274 as a team and reached base eight times via hit batsmen.
  • Ryan Kayhill blistered the baseball all weekend hitting .750 with six runs scored, 12 hits, two doubles and a home run. Kayhill came into the series hitting .193 and 11 total hits for the year.
  • Drury hit .336 as a team with six doubles, a triple and a pair of home runs.
  • No home runs were hit on day two after seven on day one. Winds had shifted and were blowing straight in from center field on Sunday with gusts as high as 40 miles per hour.
