SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Truman men's soccer team gave up two second-half goals on Sunday and dropped the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener with Illinois Springfield by a score of 3-1.
With the loss, the Bulldogs now sit at 1-1-1 overall while the Prairie Stars improved to 2-2 on the season. UIS held the advantage in shots (13-4), shots on goal (8-3) and corner kicks (6-5), but TSU had the upper hand in saves (5-2).
Illinois Springfield was on the board first with a goal in the eighth minute off the foot of Kanye Sayon, but Truman didn't go away quietly. in the 34th minute,
Zach Hollstrom converted the Bulldogs' first penalty kick attempt of the season to even things up with his first goal of the season. Howver, in the waning minutes of regulation, the Prairie Stars got a score from both Jack Coombes (78th minute) and Mario Falsone (89th minute) to put it out of reach.
Next up, TSU travels to Southwest Baptist on Tuesday for a nonconference affair with the Bearcats beginning at 3 p.m. in Bolivar, Mo.
