BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - When it was all said and done at the conclusion of competition on Saturday for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the Truman men's swimming program placed 28th out of 32 teams with 11 points while the women finished in 31st out of 40 squads with 16 points.
For the women, three seniors wrapped up their careers including
Evyn Spencer,
Hannah Nicks and
Alison Strickler. Spencer was a four-time national qualifier while both Nicks and Strickler made an appearance in the event twice. Those three were busy on day four of the championships and it started with Strickler in the 100 free. She and
Nikki Sisson tied for 30th with a time of 51.53.
In the 200 back, Nicks touched the wall in 22nd with a time of 2:02.53 and
Emma Barnett (pictured) was four spots back in 26th with a time of 2:03.87. For the 1,650 free,
Kortney Betz was in action for a 27th-place finish and a time of 17:18.10. Last, but certainly not least for the women was the 400 free relay team of Strickler, Sisson, Spencer, and
Jamie Fitzpatrick. Those four were clocked at 3:27.23 in the preliminaries before a mark of 3:28.00 in the finals, which was good for 16th.
Will Shanel finished his junior campaign by competing in the 200 back. Shanel placed 28th and touched the wall with a time of 1:52.83.
Bulldog swimming now says goodbye to 14 seniors, eight on the women's side and six on the men's roster, that dedicated their college careers to swimming with the Purple and White on.
