KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Baseball team returned to Kirksville for a single non-conference game against Southwest Baptist but ended up on the short end of an 8-6 decision. The Bulldogs open Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Friday night at Quincy in a schedule change due to weather.

The Bearcats got a two-out single from Chance Wolfe in the sixth inning that proved to be the back breaker to the Bulldogs. SBU got a sac fly in the second inning to lead 1-0 and then score four times, three coming on a home run by Nelson Muniz in the fifth to go up 5-0.

Truman battled back with four of their own in their half of the fifth. Wyatt Fones led off with a single and following a pitching change, Josh Abegg singled to left and Brendan Trimble loaded the bases with a walk.

The Bulldogs hottest hitter, Chris Iliopoulos lined a ball through the right side to plate a pair and Jason Priest dropped a bloop single to right scoring two more to cut the lead to 5-4.

Clint Jack singled to start the sixth and was the beneficiary of a wild throw on a fielder choice to advance to second base. The runners moved up on a sac bunt and after Fones made a nifty grab on a foul ball behind the plate for the second out, Wolfe laced a hard hit single off the glove of shortstop Nick Agliolo to score the insurance runs.

Truman got a run back in the seventh after Trimble doubled to right center and scored on a sac fly from Tyler Blackington.

SBU scored once more in the eighth as a pair of wild pitches brought in Cody Massey.

Abegg led off Truman's final at bat with a double down the left field line and later scored on a passed ball.

Drew Wagner started for SBU and lasted four and a third innings before giving way to Calvin Lovig. Wolfe got the save.

Closer Peter Young made his first start of his career and gave up a single run in the second to take the loss. He was followed by seven other Truman pitchers to the bump.

Truman will open up GLVC play this weekend with a four-game series at rival Quincy. The series has already been altered due to weather concerns. The teams will try play single games on Friday (7 p.m.) and Saturday (noon) before finishing with a doubleheader on Sunday.
