Academic All-America Honors For Tarantino

AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Laura Tarantino became the third Truman Bulldog this academic year to earn the prestigious Academic All-America award selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Tarantino was a third team selection on the Division II Women's Cross Country/Track and Field Academic All-America list that was released by CoSIDA on Thursday. She joins Katie Mattingly (Women's Soccer) and Christa Reisinger (Softball) as Truman student-athletes named Academic All-America.

The Nursing major from Ballwin, Missouri, Tarantino was previously named the Truman Outstanding Senior Student-Athlete, a Great Lakes Valley Conference Sportsmanship award winner, was the 10,000 Meter Champion at the GLVC Outdoor Championships in May and a national competitor in the 10K at the Division II Championships. She was Truman's top finisher in 21 of 25 career cross country races and was all-conference and all-region this past fall.

Tarantino is the ninth Academic All-American for the Truman Cross Country/Track & Field program and first since 2013 when thrower Rachel McCarroll was also a third team selection.

Truman has had 112 Academic All-Americans since 1973 with 70 coming since 2000.

To be selected for the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility, possess a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or key contributor to your team and earn first-team All-Academic region that was voted upon by CoSIDA members.
