RECAP: Bulldogs & Prairie Stars Battle To A 1-1 Tie

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women's Soccer team and the Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield played to a 1-1 draw in the home opener for the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Bulldogs put three first half shots on net while UIS squeezed off three shots total, none on goal.
 
Truman struck early in the second half. Erin Chynoweth gathered the ball up top and fed a pass to her left and a waiting Delaney Kooken. The Bulldog flicked the ball over Courtney Johnson and into the net for a 1-0 lead at 45 seconds into the half. It was Kooken's first goal of the season.
 
UIS started to apply pressure as the clock clicked down. Taylor Mraz finally sprung Karisa Rogers on a breakaway and Rogers beat Katie Mattingly for the equalizer in the 71st minute.
 
A spirited overtime periods saw each team with chances to win the game. Kelsey Murphy had the best chance as her shot was stopped by Johnson and rebound attempt went over the crossbar. Mattingly made two stops, one in each OT period to keep UIS from taking the contest.
 
Truman had 14 shots total with half on goal and UIS had 13 shots with five on net.
 
The Bulldogs will host William Jewell in another GLVC battle on Friday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.
