LEBANON, Ill. - The Truman State University men's soccer team traveled to McKendree on Friday night and it was a defensive struggle to start as neither team was able to score for the first 75 minutes and 15 seconds. The Bearcats then scored twice in under five minutes to send the Bulldogs home with their second-straight loss.
With the defeat, Truman fell to 3-7-4 overall and 1-7-3 in the GLVC while McKendree improved to 9-4-1 on the season including 7-3-1 in league action. The Bearcats' first goal came from Raul Artega and was assisted by Eddie Davis before Davis did hit himself for the second score.
The home team controlled the advantage in total shots (18-10) and shots on goal (7-2) while its visitors held the upper hand in corner kicks (6-4).
Individually, Truman's 10 shots came from seven different players and
Trevor Kaufmann led the way with four to his name. As far as shots on target,
Mateo Montano and
Thomas Bean each had one.
In goal,
Jacob Gunn started for the first time since Oct. 7 and saved five attempts on 18 shots faced.
Truman will be at Illinois Springfield on Sunday and first kick is set for 12 p.m.
