RECAP: Men's Soccer Drops Overtime Thriller to Missouri S&T

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Just like Friday's match at Drury, the Truman State University men's soccer team had to come back twice in order to get the score to 2-2 against Missouri S&T. However, this time, the opponent had the last laugh as the Miners scored the golden goal in the 96th minute to win it, 3-2, on a soggy day at Stokes Stadium.

Entering Sunday's affair, Truman (2-5-4, 0-5-3 GLVC) had yet to lose a match that went to overtime (now 0-1-4). On the other side, all three of Missouri S&T's (3-8, 3-5 GLVC) wins have come in its last five matches, two of which were in the first extra period.

All five of the game's goals came after halftime and started with the 67th minute and Missouri S&T's Hunter Short. Just under three minutes later, Truman's Thomas Bean struck gold for the second match in a row thanks to Tristyn Hasmer's cross and Collin McDonough's header.

The Miners didn't waste time finding their counter punch as Unnar Ulfarsson scored with a penalty kick just one minute and 19 seconds later. The Bulldogs had yet another answer, though, when McDonough did it himself from the double assist of Matt Yankowitz' and Trevor Kaufmann (pictured).

Nearly 14 minutes elapsed without another goal before the visitors' Trey Haman ended it in the first overtime.

In the team head-to-head, Truman held a narrow advantage in total shots (22-20), but came up short in shots on goal (9-6). Missouri S&T also won the corner-kick battle to the tune of 9-4. Nine different Bulldogs tallied shots led by three apiece from Ryan Stites, Austin Morgan, Bean, Kaufmann, and McDonough.

Next up, Truman will host Indianapolis on Friday with the first kick set for 2:30 p.m. at Bulldog Soccer Park.
