HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Alyssa Hajduk (pictured) twirled her fifth career complete game and the Truman State University softball team gave her four runs of support in a 4-1 win over Christian Brothers to open the action on Friday afternoon. However, No. 11 Lee got the best of the Bulldogs in the nightcap and defeated the Purple and White with the run rule, 10-2, after six innings.
Truman fell back to .500 at 2-2 while Christian Brothers sits at 3-5 and Lee went back above the even mark at 5-4. For the day,
Christa Reisinger was a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored, a triple and six total bases while
Jamie Fowle (2-for-5) and
Kadie Orenstein (2-for-3) each notched a pair of hits. After four games, Reisinger is hitting .800 with eight hits in 10 at-bats, six runs, two triples, 12 total bases, six walks, and five stolen bases in five attempts.
In the first game, Truman wasted no time taking the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first.
Ashley Murphy singled in Reisinger after her leadoff base hit and Fowle pushed Murphy across with a triple to the gap in left center. Four innings later, the Bulldogs added a pair of insurance runs when
Morgan McMahan doubled in
Alyssa Rivera and McMahan later scored after
Kayla Quanstrum reached on a throwing error by the third baseman.
That was all the run support Hajduk (2-0) needed as the sophomore was in a groove from the get go. Hajduk gave up just one earned run on four hits with nine strikeouts and four walks on 114 pitches.
Against Lee, Truman was first on the board again and it happened in the top of the first when Murphy scored Reisinger on a sacrifice bunt to the third baseman. The Flames responded with two runs in the first and another in the third to make it 3-1. The Bulldogs' second and final run crossed in the top of the fifth after Fowle singled to right and Rivera touched home plate. Lee then rattled off four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to finish it.
Lauren Dale (0-1) took the loss with seven earned runs surrendered on 10 hits and
Nicolette Simpson gave up three earned in a frame of work.
Next up, Truman will play five games in three days as part of Trevecca Nazarene's Music City Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. on Feb. 16-18.
