RECAP: Bulldog Men Grab First GLVC Win At William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Truman Men's team picked up a big road victory when they defeated William Jewell College 7-2 on Saturday. The women fell 8-1 in a match against the Cardinals that was closer than the score indicated.
 
Griffin Turnage and Nick Thiele secured an 8-5 doubles win at number two and Grant Burtron and Matt Thiele won by the same 8-5 score at number three to put Truman up 2-1 heading into singles play.
 
Turnage won in straight sets at number two singles as did Arpit Sahoo at three and Nick Thiele in fourth to clinch the Bulldogs first GLVC win. Alec Jarvis won in three sets at number five as did Matt Thiele at number six.
 
Lindsey Schlichting and Maura Dunn kept their winning ways going for the ladies in the top doubles spot. The duo was 8-5 winners over Claire Mackay and Becca Richison. The Cardinals squeaked out the second doubles match by an 8-6 score and headed into singles with a 2-1 advantage.
 
Four Bulldogs won their first set in singles to tip the momentum toward Truman however the Cardinals rallied to win the second set and force a tie break in each of the four contest.
 
Schlichting won 6-3 to Mackay but lost 6-3 and 6-0 to drop number one. Dunn was up 6-3 after one but loss to Richison 6-4 and 6-1 at number two. Alexandra Rogers won 6-3 at number three but Hannah Waine rallied for a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number three. Finessa Rassel won 6-1  in her opening set but Julia Yamate came back to take two 6-4 and the tie-break 10-6.
