RECAP: Softball Sweeps Quincy to Close Regular Season

QUINCY, Ill. - Wins are priority No. 1 right now and the Truman State University softball team picked up two more of them on Saturday with a sweep at rival Quincy. The Bulldogs cranked out 13 runs on 14 hits en route to scores of 7-2 and 6-0 to keep their GLVC Tournament hopes alive.

Truman improved to 26-18 overall and moved two games above the .500 mark in league play at 15-13. The Bulldogs also got back to .500 in true road games at 11-11 and now lead the all-time series with Quincy by 13, 40-27. On the other side, Quincy (21-25, 9-17 GLVC) had won six games in a row before hosting the Purple and White on Saturday.

In game one, Quincy scored one run in each of the first two innings before Truman responded with seven unanswered runs. Christa Reisinger (pictured) hit a three-run shot in the fourth, Brooke VunCannon brought in Alyssa Rivera with an RBI groundout in the sixth and Rivera crushed a three-run bomb in the seventh.

In the circle, Lauren Dale (11-9) picked up the win after four and two-thirds innings pitched with two earned runs given up on eight hits, no walks and four strikeouts. In relief, Alyssa Hajduk surrendered zero runs on just one hit with one free pass and two punchouts.

In the nightcap, Jamie Fowle brought in a pair with a bunt single in the second, Reisinger hit a two-run home run in the third and VunCannon pushed two across with a single to center in the sixth. That blast for Reisinger gave her a new single-season high with 10 and her 36 RBI are three away from a personal best.

That was plenty of support for Hajduk who got the start and was brilliant for her seventh complete game of the spring. Hajduk (12-6) threw a two-hit shutout with two walks and a strikeout on 106 pitches while facing just three batters over the minimum.

Entering the GLVC's last day of the season on Sunday, Truman is in seventh place and the top eight teams qualify for the postseason tournament. However, the Bulldogs' regular season is over and every other team in the league has one doubleheader left. The conference's standings can be found HERE and the scoreboard is HERE.
