RECAP: Missouri-St. Louis Silences Truman Offense in GLVC Quarterfinal Loss

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - The fifth-seeded Truman State University softball team managed just one run on two-hits en route to a 3-1 quarterfinal loss to fourth-seeded Missouri-St. Louis in the 2018 GLVC Tournament. The Bulldogs fall to the losers' bracket and will face eighth-seeded Missouri S&T at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Truman falls to 26-19 overall and since joining the GLVC in 2014, is now 0-8 against Missouri-St. Louis in postseason play. On the other side, the Tritons (31-20) have won three in a row and will face 18th-ranked/top-seeded Illinois Springfield at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Truman struck first in the top of the first after Alyssa Rivera reached on an error by the shortstop, stole second and Christa Reisinger brought her in with a triple to right field. In the home half of that inning, however, Missouri-St. Louis' Reagan Osborn reached on an error by the second baseman and later came around to score on an RBI single.

Two innings later, the Tritons scored another unearned run to make it 2-1 heading to the fourth inning. After the Bulldogs stranded two in the top half, UMSL's Madi Sundling led off with a triple to right center that dropped between Reisinger in center and Michaela Mooney in right. Two outs later, Sundling touched the plate and Missouri-St. Louis had a 3-1 advantage.

Truman's only other hit was a one-out single from Rivera in the 6th as the Tritons' Carly Kingery (14-6) went the distance with one unearned run surrendered, one walk and nine strikeouts. Lauren Dale (11-10) took the loss after giving up just one earned run on five hits with no free passes and four punchouts.
