Box Score

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Faith Branson's goal, two minutes and three seconds into overtime gave the Truman Women's Soccer team a 3-2 win over conference rival Rockhurst on Friday evening. The Bulldogs return to action Sunday at the defending Great Lakes Valley Conference champion, Quincy at 1 p.m.

The Bulldogs (6-1; 2-1 GLVC) had to come back from a goal down twice in the match. Another early goal by the home team put Truman down 1-0. McKenna Leetch scored on a header three minutes into the match to put the Hawks up 1-0. It was the third goal this season that was scored less than six minutes into the start of the match against the Bulldogs.

Truman was awarded a penalty in the 30th minute and Hanna Burke converted from the spot to tie the match at one. It was Burke's second goal of the year.

Early in the second half, Cathy Rometti scored on a free kick to put Rockhurst back on top 2-1.

Branson assisted on the tying goal from Maggie Beem only five minutes later. It was Beem's first goal of the season.

In overtime, roles were reversed as Beem fed Branson from 18 yards out and she hit the right corner of the net for her team-leading third goal of the season and the game winner.

Truman peppered 18 shots, with eight on goal and Rockhurst had seven shots with five on net. Beth Hopwood got the win making three saves, including two in the second half.

The win sets up a showdown with Quincy on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Hawks won the GLVC regular season last year and are 4-3 overall and 2-1 in the GLVC. Quincy downed Lewis (Ill.) at home on Friday evening 3-1.
