PDF Notes | Live Stats | Live Video | Listen LiveĀ

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The second oldest rival on Truman Football's current schedule, Southwest Baptist University, will be the opponent on Saturday night at 6 p.m. as the Bulldogs look to continue the season perfect.
Ā
The two teams have met annually since 1988 with only a two-year hiatus from 2008-09.
Ā
Truman enters Saturday's contest on the cusp of a national ranking and their first 4-0 start to a regular season since 1994. The Bulldogs have received votes in the last three American Football Coaches Association polls with this week's total of 44 being good for 27thĀ in Division II. Truman dismantled neighbor Quincy University 63-14 in their last outing. The Bulldogs put up their most points in a GLVC game and most in a conference game since facing Southwest Baptist in 2000 (64-14). Truman put up 560 yards of total offense, forced five turnovers, scored nine touchdowns and possessed the ball for over 37 minutes in the beatdown. Reed McBroom earned the GLVC Defensive Player of the week award with eight tackles and two for loss while Josh Scheiderer became the fourth straight special teams recipient from Truman to garner that award. Scheiderer matched a school-record with nine point-after conversions.Ā
Ā
Truman has now won 10 of their last 12 games, five by 20 points or more.
Ā
Southwest Baptist ran into the buzzsaw known at UINDY on Saturday night. The defending league champions were too much for SBU as they handed the Bearcats a 49-6 loss to stop SBU's two-game winning streak. Former Bearcat QB and current UINDY signal caller TJ Edwards threw for 173 yards and rushed for another 19 in accounting for three touchdowns against his former team. SBU netted only 167 yards of total offense on the night and were only 2-of-14 on third down attempts. With Edwards at SBU, the Bearcats were19-13 in three seasons but since have gone 2-12.
Ā
Truman/SBU Series Notes:
This will be the 31stĀ meeting between the two schools on the gridiron sharing conference games in the former MIAA and now GLVC banner. The Bulldogs have won 11 of the last 12 meetings with SBU and are 14-1 in Kirksville. The last SBU win came at Stokes in 2017 when the Bearcats won the first of two meetings 21-17. Truman avenged the loss with a 28-12 win later that year and rolled to a 38-14 win last season in Bolivar.
Ā
Truman and Missouri S&T share the longest active history with one another at 81 games.
Ā
Bulldogs Garnering Attention:
For the third straight week, the Truman Football team received votes in the American Football Coaches Association weekly Division II poll. Truman started with two votes then went up to 11 the week before. This week, the Bulldogs received 44 votes, which would be good for 27thĀ in the poll.Ā Ā Since the AFCA poll started in 2000, only twice has Truman been in the top 25, they were 21stĀ in the October 23, 2001 poll and 24thĀ in the October 30, 2001 poll.Ā
Ā
In addition to the polls, Truman Football gained national attention by being a Division II team with victories against two Division I-FCS teams in Valparaiso and in week one against Drake.
Ā
Truman is number one in the GLVC in scoring defense (10.0/g), rushing defense (80.3/g), pass efficiency defense (93.5), total defense (273.8/g) and opponent third downs (19%). They are the number two kick return squad in Division II at 40.2 and ranked third nationally in opponent third downs, fourth in scoring defense and sixth in sacks allowed per game (0.50).
Ā
