KIRKSVILLE, Mo. –
Chance Douglass scored the game winning goal in overtime to give the Truman Women's Soccer team a huge 2-1 victory over Southern Indiana on Friday afternoon.
Hanna Hickey got Truman on the board in the 17
th minute when she took a pass from Douglass and beat keeper Maya Etienne for the lead.
That lead would hold nearly 70 minutes before the USI pressure finally got the equalizer. Natalie Jostes scored from a pass by Madison Crawford with under five minutes remaining in regulation to tie the game at one.
To extra time the teams went and the Bulldogs got the winner off the foot of Douglass.
Paige Peterson played the ball from her own side of center and Douglass was able to not only stay onside but then beat her defender to get clear. She then made a move to her left to slip past Etienne for a wide open cage. It was her fifth goal of the season.
Beth Hopwood stopped six shots on goal and faced an 8-1 USI advantage on corner kicks to earn the victory in net for Truman.
Truman moves to percentage points behind the Screaming Eagles in the GLVC standings. The Bulldogs are now 7-5 in conference while USI falls to 7-4-1. Truman will welcome conference leader McKendree to the Truman Soccer Park on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
