RECAP: Bulldogs Pick Up Big League Win Over McKendree

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Hanna Burke scored in the 22nd minute and the Bulldog defense along with keeper Beth Hopwood made that goal hold up in a 1-0 shutout over conference leader McKendree on Sunday afternoon.
 
Isabel Kurzban started the scoring sequence with a shot/pass that was aimed wide and right to Hanna Hickey. Hickey volleyed the ball to Burke, who touched it past Zoe Brochu inside the post for her second goal of the season.
 
McKendree poured on the pressure in the second half but the Truman defense remained solid and Hopwood came up with key saves. She stopped a pair of shots in the second half having to range high near the crossbar to coral or punch chances away. McKendree finished with 11 shots, four on goal and had five corner kicks.
 
Burke had three of Truman's seven shots with Kurzban and Chance Douglass adding the others.
 
It was the sixth shutout of the season for Hopwood and eighth straight game against McKendree in which Truman did not allow a goal against.
 
Truman improved to 8-5 in the conference while handing the Bearcats their second league defeat (9-2-2). The Bulldogs will wrap up their regular season with home matches next Friday against Missouri-St. Louis and next Sunday against Lindenwood.
