RECAP: Volleyball Falls at Conference Leading Drury

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—The Truman Volleyball team resumed their conference schedule on Friday as they went to conference leading Drury looking to break their two match losing streak. After a nail biting first set, Drury downed the Bulldogs 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-19).

The first set began tightly contested, starting out at an 8-8 tie. From there, Truman jumped out to a 13-10 lead following a 5-2 run, spurred by kills from Jocelynn Livingston and Ellie Kaat. From there, Drury would close the gap and then tie the set before taking an 18-17 lead. Truman fought back following a timeout and tied the set at 20, forcing a Drury timeout. Truman got the first point out of the timeout and the teams alternated until Drury scored two straight to take a 24-23 lead and force set point. Truman stayed alive on the first set point, but two straight from Drury took the set 26-24.

Much like the first set, the second set began neck and neck. From a 6-6 tie, Drury went on a 5-1 run to take an 11-7 lead. Back to back kills from Morgan Smith got the Bulldogs within a point at 11-10, but from there Truman could not retake the lead and Drury saw out of the set for a 25-19 win.

Riding the momentum from the second set, Drury jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead in the third set. Truman fought back to come within five, but ultimately Drury fought back to lead 20-12. From there Truman went on a 7-2 run to get within three at 22-19. But Drury closed the set on a 3-0 run to take the set 25-19 and the match.

Morgan Smith tied for the team lead with 11 kills with Livingston, the third time in the last four matches she led the team in kills. Lauren Wacker racked up 15 digs and Sam Yancy also reached double digits with 14.

The Bulldogs will look to end their skid tomorrow against Southwest Baptist at 3 p.m.
