SPRINGFIELD, Ill.—Sunday the Truman men's soccer team entered their match against Illinois Springfield at 4-4 but on a three match losing streak. Matt Yankowitz scored his fourth goal of the season, but it was not enough to hold back the UIS attack as the Prairie Stars defended their home field with a 5-1 win.
UIS got on the board quickly as Mario Falsone drew a penalty in the seventh minute. Falsone buried the penalty past Julian Echeverri, who made his first start as a Bulldog in this game. Just a few minutes later Dan Mahony scored, with Harry Hiscock getting the assist. In the 25th minute, Falsone struck again as he scored his fourth goal of the season. Yankowitz got his fourth goal of the season in the 34th minute, giving the Bulldogs a bit of momentum heading into the break.
Just over 15 minutes into the second half, Mario Gonzalez picked up the goal and Mahony got the assist to put UIS up 4-1. Just over three minutes later Drew Keller got his first goal to seal the game, with Adrian Ortega got the assist.
Yankowitz led the team in shots with four, shots on goal with two and picked up the lone score of the afternoon. The Bulldogs will look to rebound this weekend at Bulldog Soccer Park as they take on Drury on Friday at noon and then Southwest Baptist next Sunday at noon.
