ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Truman Swimming teams headed to St. Louis this weekend for the UMSL tri-meet against Missouri-St. Louis and Maryville.
From day one, Truman led the hosts 177-131 and led Maryville 207-90. The men led Maryville 98-52 while trailing UMSL 98-56. The women led UMSL 121-33 and Maryville 109-38. Allison Garrett led the women's team in their impressive first day with a top finish in seed time in the 200 IM at 2:08.15, while Annika Hofer led the event in final time at 2:09.08. Garrett also was part of the top finishing team in the 200 freestyle relay, with Emma Brabham, Kaylee Sisson and Sarah Nelson. For the men, Lliot Gieseke finished first in the 100 freestyle with a seed time of 45.13 and a final time of 47.01.
On day two, Christina Jurotich set a career best mark in the 100 backstroke with a seed time of 1:06.75 and final time of 1:05.97. The Bulldogs dominated this event as Maddie Duncan took first place in the event with a time of 59.41/1:02.17, Brooke Beahan finished second in the event at 59.84/1:03.53. Megan Mensinger won the 1650 freestyle race with a time of 18:09.77. Mikayla Kempf finished second in the event with a time of 18:34.20. Maggie Hickey dominated in the 100 butterfly, finishing with a final time of 57.74, almost three seconds ahead of second place. For the men John Breen had a standout day, with his standout performance being a second place finish in the 200 freestyle, with a final time of 1:46.22. The final scores for the women were TSU 258, UMSL 68 and TSU 237, Maryville 73. For the men it was TSU 222, Maryville 87 and UMSL 214, TSU 112.
Following the action, Coach Jerod Simek said, "The women swam strong and the men's did well tired in our last matchup before the Mizzou Invite in 10 days. The staff was able to see the last bit of details to hit on as a tune up during each athletes taper plan. We are very optimistic about swimming some competitive times season and lifetime best times that will put us in a position to qualify for the NCAA Championships come March!"
The Bulldogs will be back in action at the Mizzou Invite from November 20-22.
