RECAP: Truman Sweeps Season Series with Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. - Thanks to its best field goal percentage of the season and a dominant first half, the Truman State University men's basketball team was able to make quick work of Quincy, 92-76, and sweep the season series with the Hawks on Saturday afternoon inside Pepsi Arena.

With the win, Truman improved to 14-12 overall and 9-7 in GLVC play with two regular season games left to play. On the other side, Quincy (9-17, 3-13 GLVC) has dropped four games in a row and eight of its last nine. The Bulldogs also took over the lead in the all-time series (62-61) for the first time since 2001.

Truman was led by a career day from Mark Rogers (pictured) who turned in personal bests of 18 points (game high) and six rebounds (team high) in 17 minutes on the court. Rogers was one of nine Bulldogs to score and five that reached double-figures along with Cade McKnight (17), Brodric Thomas (14), Turner Scott (11), and Hunter Strait (11). Thomas stuffed the stat sheet as usual with a team-leading six boards, six assists, two blocks, and one steal.

As mentioned above, Truman achieved a season-best 64.8 field goal percentage (35-of-54) with 20 assists on those 35 made field goals. If not for a record book requirement of at least 60 attempts, that clip would be the second-best mark in program history. The Bulldogs also cashed in on 10 of their 22 three-point attempts (45.5 percent) and outscored the Hawks by 10 in the paint, 42-32.

The game's four ties and one lead change came in the first eight minutes with the score knotted up, 13-13, at that point. Quincy did score first and led 4-0 before Truman took over the game and didn't look back. Once that fourth and final tie came at 13-13, the Bulldogs then scored 16 of the next 19 points to go up by 13, 29-16, with just under seven minutes to go until halftime. From there until halftime, the closest the Hawks could get was eight (31-23 and 33-25) and the Bulldogs stretched their advantage to as many as 19, 48-29, heading into the locker room. Despite being outscored by three, 47-44, in the second period, Truman was never in danger and cruised to the 16-point victory.

Next up, Truman will host Indianapolis (17-9, 10-6 GLVC) on Thursday with the tip set for 7:30 p.m. inside Pershing Arena. The Bulldogs are holding on to the eighth-place spot in the GLVC Point Rating System and the Greyhounds are currently fourth. Indianapolis defeated Truman at home, 83-79, back on Jan. 5.
