KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Thanks to 12 runs on 17 hits along with only two hits allowed by the combination of
Lauren Dale and
Alyssa Hajduk, the Truman State University softball team made quick work of Southwest Baptist in its return home. The Bulldogs run-ruled the Bearcats in game one, 8-0, in five innings, before a 4-0 victory in the nightcap.
Taking a brief hiatus from GLVC play, Truman improved to 15-6 overall, while future league member, Southwest Baptist, heads into its MIAA slate with a record of 3-22. Getting back into conference action on Saturday, the Bulldogs will travel to defending National Champion, Southern Indiana (18-12, 6-2 GLVC), for a 12 p.m. first pitch in game one.
Tuesday, Truman's 17 hits came from seven different players, five of which collected multiple hits including
Christa Reisinger (6-for-7),
Kayla Quanstrum (3-for-6),
Adrienne Compton (2-for-3),
Brooke VunCannon (2-for-5), and
Emma Walbert (2-for-6). The Bulldogs combined to go 17-for-49 at the dish for a .347 batting average compared to just .054 (2-for-37) for the Bearcats.
Back to Reisinger, the senior's 6-for-7 day against Southwest Baptist bumped her season average up to .627 (47-for-75), the highest its been since it skyrocketed to .643 on March 11 after a 4-for-4 day vs. Sioux Falls. Just to give you an idea how other worldly the center fielder has been this season, that .627 average is just two points off the Division II record of .629 set in 1993. The difference between Christa's .627 and No. 2 in the GLVC (.471) is the same amount as the difference between the second-best average in the GLVC and the 50th-best mark (.316 points). In her last seven games, Reisinger is hitting .720 (18-for-25) despite an 0-for-3 game at Lewis, and has three or more hits in all but two of those seven outings.
In the circle, Dale (9-3) gave up just one hit with four walks and two strikeouts before Hajduk (5-2) followed suit in the nightcap. Like Dale, Hajduk went the distance, also with only one hit allowed, to go with one free pass and three punchouts.
