RECAP: #1 Drury Overpowers Bulldogs In GLVC Semis 85-60

Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Top-seeded, top-ranked and undefeated Drury Lady Panthers used their aggressive defense to force 33 Truman turnovers and downed the Bulldogs 85-60 in the semifinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament.

The Bulldogs (23-7) will wait to see where they will be seeded for the upcoming NCAA Midwest Regional next weekend. Truman was ranked fifth in last week's poll with the top eight teams advancing to the regional round. They will most likely be returning to the tournament for the first time since 2014. The NCAA Selection Show is set to start at 9 p.m. on Sunday night and can be viewed at NCAA.com.

The buzz saw started off the opening tip with six turnovers in six minutes and an early 14-3 lead by the Lady Panthers (30-0).  The pressure, can't-call-it-all, swarm Drury started the game with limited Truman to only 3-of-13 shooting in the first quarter and the Bulldogs trailed 25-10.

The Bulldogs could get as close as 13 in the second quarter and 14 at the end of three before Drury used runs to maintain a healthy lead throughout.

Hailey Diestelkamp led five Drury players in double figures with 21 points on 10-of-20 shooting. Daejah Bernard finished with 11 to go with eight assists and seven steals. Drury scored 29 points off of forcing a season-high 33 Bulldog turnovers.

Makenzie Bray was a bright spot for the Bulldogs with a season-best 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 6-of-6 at the foul line. She was also the leader in rebounds for Truman with seven. Brooke Bailey and Rachel Steinhoff each finished with 10. Steinhoff tied the Truman career record for games played by entering her 115th on Saturday night. She ties former teammate Courtney Strait for the top spot. Bailey was playing in her 114th overall game.

The NCAA Midwest regional will be held next Friday, Saturday and Monday at most likely Springfield, Missouri and the home court of Drury. They will face Bellarmine in the championship game for the conference tournament at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
