SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Thanks to
Alyssa Hajduk's career high eighth complete game of the season and
Christa Reisinger's three runs scored, the Truman State University softball team was able to take game one at Drury on Saturday, 3-1. However, leading the Panthers 2-1 in the rematch, the Bulldogs gave up nine unanswered runs to fall by the run rule, 10-2, in six innings.
With the split, Truman is now 28-13 overall and 14-10 in GLVC play with just the Senior Day doubleheader against Quincy on April 27 remaining for the regular season. The Bulldogs are holding onto fifth place while Drury (33-16, 12-10 GLVC) is breathing down their neck in sixth, still with four conference contests left to play.
Saturday, Reisinger was one of only three Bulldogs with multiple hits (
Adrienne Compton 2-for-5 and
Lauren Bowman 2-for-6), but was the lone hitter in that trio with more than two as she went 5-for-6 at the dish. In game one, Reisinger scored on
Alyssa Rivera's RBI double in the first before hitting a solo home run in both the third and seventh innings for her fourth career multi-homer game, three of which have come in 2019. The senior center fielder needed just one blast to move into sole possession of second place on the program's career home run chart and now has 38 (13 this season), 12 behind Elizabeth Economon's school record of 50. Four of Reisinger's last 11 at-bats have resulted in home runs.
In that game-one win, Hajduk (13-4) went the distance for the 19th time in her career with one earned run given up on 10 hits, two walks and four strikeouts. The junior lefty was able to dance around trouble all game as Drury stranded 11 including at least one in six of the seven innings and three in the third. Not only did the southpaw reach a new personal best in complete games for a season, but her 13 wins are also a career high.
In the nightcap,
Lauren Dale (14-8) got the start, but lasted just four and a third frames as she allowed three earned on three hits with four free passes and only one punchout. In an inning and a third of relief, Hajduk surrendered a personal worst seven earned on five hits.
Truman's final regular season doubleheader on April 27 vs. Quincy will begin at noon.
