KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - After being shutout, 6-0, in game one against Maryville on Friday afternoon, the Truman State University softball team came to life in the nightcap thanks in part to the pitching of
Alyssa Hajduk (pictured) and
Christa Reisinger's work at the plate. Hajduk struck out 10 batters with no walks and Reisinger came within a double of the cycle as the Bulldogs won it 3-1 to salvage the split.
With that split, Truman is now 17-10 overall and 5-9 in GLVC play while Maryville sits at 21-14 on the season including 6-6 in league action. Next up for the Bulldogs is a twinbill with Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday and first pitch in game one is set for 12 p.m.
Truman's game-two starter, Hajduk, struck out at least 10 batters for the fifth time in her career, but hadn't done so since May 5, 2017 vs. McKendree when she was just a freshman. Friday's stellar effort for the southpaw also marks the first time she's ever punched out 10 or more batters at home and she had never struck out more than five batters in a game without having at least one walk.
As for Reisinger, the senior was hitless in game one for just the second time this season before rebounding with a triple in the first inning, a solo home run in the third and a one-out bunt single in the fifth. With that first-inning triple, the 16th of her illustrious career, Reisinger broke yet another Truman career record passing Renee Harper's mark that had stood for 36 (!!!) years.
In game two, Truman's two other runs came when
Emma Walbert grounded out to the first baseman unassisted to score Reisinger in the first and
Adrienne Compton stole home in the second. Hajduk (7-3) went the distance for the 15th time in her career and fourth time this season while bringing her batting average against down to .189, which is tied for third in the GLVC.
