Regional Tournament Page

ST. LOUIS - For the fourth time in seven games and sixth occurrence this season, the Truman State University softball team was tasked with facing the University of Indianapolis. The two teams' 23rd all-time meeting came with a trip to day three of the 2019 NCAA Midwest 2 Regional on the line. However, the Greyhounds got the best of the Bulldogs, 7-0, for the 12th-straight time and sent them home with an overall record of 32-19.

The Indianapolis offense was too much to handle for Truman as it scored two runs in the third, three in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Lauren Honkomp (22-5) went the distance for the victory with just five hits allowed, one walk and five strikeouts on an even 100 pitches. The Bulldogs' five hits came from five different players including three from the top four spots in the lineup.

Honkomp's counterpart, Alyssa Hajduk (17-6), who'd just thrown a complete-game shutout of her own, lasted four and a third innings with four earned surrendered on only two hits to go with four free passes and four punchouts on 87 pitches. In relief, Lauren Dale pitched the final inning and two-thirds with three earned runs on four hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

The final game of the season marked the end of the careers for six seniors including Dale, Christa Reisinger, Morgan McMahan, Brooke VunCannon, Michaela Mooney, and Sydney Scherzinger. Those six finish with a winning percentage of .610 (128-82) and made an NCAA Tournament appearance in three of their four seasons. Also saying goodbye to the program is its all-time winningest coach, Erin Brown. During Brown's 13-year tenure, the Bulldogs went 348-302 (.535 winning percentage) with five NCAA Tournament qualifiers.
