RECAP: Truman Eliminates UMSL, Will Face Indianapolis Again

Regional Tournament Page

ST. LOUIS - Prior to their most-recent showdown, Truman and Missouri-St. Louis had seen each other 22 times, including eight in the postseason, since the Bulldogs joined the GLVC prior to the 2014 season. In those 22 meetings, the Tritons had won 17 of them as well as all eight of the postseason matchups, five of which eliminated the Bulldogs. Fast forward to Friday and UMSL was the one packing its bags as Truman shut out the Tritons, 4-0, to stay alive in the NCAA Midwest 2 Regional.

Alyssa Hajduk (17-5) was brilliant once again as she hurled her fourth complete-game shutout of the season and scattered just four hits over seven innings. Hajduk's 11th complete game of 2019 and 22nd of her career featured six walks, nine strikeouts, 32 batters faced, and 139 total pitches. In her last five outings (26 and two-thirds innings), the junior southpaw has given up just four earned runs on 15 hits with an ERA of 1.05 and batting average against of only .158.

Offensively, Truman scored one run in four different innings including the first, second, fourth, and fifth. Christa Reisinger scored on a fielding error by the shortstop in the first, Jaymi Freeman doubled in Lauren Bowman (pictured) in the second, Bowman hit her first career home run in the fourth, and Emma Walbert came in on a wild pitch in the fifth. With a 2-for-3 effort, the freshman, Bowman, is now hitting .311 including a .450 clip (9-for-20) in the postseason.

After this win, Truman will turn right around and face No. 13 Indianapolis for a chance to play on Championship Saturday vs. seventh-seeded Illinois Springfield. The Bulldogs and Greyhounds have already seen each other five times this season, but UIndy has won all five of those meetings along with the last 11 in a row.
