RECAP: No. 13 Indianapolis Comes From Behind to Defeat Truman, 10-9

Regional Tournament Page

ST. LOUIS - Playing No. 13 Indianapolis for the third time in the last five games and fifth time this season, Truman was looking to snap a 10-game losing streak to the Greyhounds in game one of the NCAA Midwest 2 Regional. At one point, the Bulldogs led by six runs, 9-3, but the Greyhounds came all the way back to oust the Purple and White, 10-9, on Thursday afternoon at UMSL Softball Field.

Friday, three-seeded Indianapolis (46-14) will face the winner of two-seeded/No. 24 UMSL (35-17) and seventh-seeded Illinois Springfield (27-24) while sixth-seeded Truman will see the loser of that showdown. This season, the Bulldogs swept both the Tritons on April 6 and the Prairie Stars on April 13, both of which were played in Kirksville.

Thursday's meeting between Indianapolis and Truman was a sloppy one that saw 19 combined runs, eight of which were unearned, on 16 hits with six errors. Prior to this game, the Bulldogs owned a record of 12-1 when they scored five or more runs, but are now just 7-7 in one-run affairs.

Specifically, starting with the pitching, Bulldog starter, Alyssa Hajduk, lasted just two innings and was given a no decision. Hajduk gave up four earned runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts on 68 pitches. Hajduk entered the game with an 18-inning scoreless streak and made it 19 innings before Indianapolis got on the board. In relief, Rachael Kernich (1-3) surrendered six runs, five earned, in two and a third frames while Lauren Dale handled the final inning and two-thirds with only one hit allowed.

Offensively, Truman's six hits came from five different players and Alyssa Rivera (pictured) was the lone Bulldog with more than one of them at 2-for-4. Christa Reisinger (0-for-3) was held without a hit for just the eighth time this season, three of which have come in the last six games. Since raising her batting average up to .598 back on April 20, Reisinger has hit an uncharacteristic .320 (8-for-25) since then to lower that mark to .553.
