ROMEOVILLE, Ill.—The Truman volleyball team opened their conference season Friday evening against the #6 ranked Lewis Flyers. The team was bolstered by the season debut of 2018 Second Team All-GLVC outside hitter
Ellie Kaat, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs dropped the match 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-16).
Kaat scored the first point of the game on her first kill of the season, but after that Lewis took over the set. The Flyers scored four points immediately following and took the set 25-14.
The second set was a tight affair. Lewis jumped out to a 2-0 lead at first, but a kill from
Jocelynn Livingston got Truman on the board and then the set got tied at two. Lewis rebuilt a 6-2 lead, but Truman rallied back to tie it at eight. A kill from
Ainsley Heise gave Truman a 10-9 lead and eventually would take a lead at 14-11. The set would become knotted again at 18 and then again at 21, but a 4-0 run to end the set gave Lewis the set 25-21.
In the third set, the teams were neck and neck early on. But from a 6-6 tie, Lewis took the lead and would not trail again. The Bulldogs got within 9-8 but would not be able to get any closer as Lewis took the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
Kaat was second on the team in kills with seven in her first match of the season. The team will take on Illinois-Springfield tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
