QUINCY, Ill.—The Truman Men's Basketball team finished their run of three games in five days in Quincy as they defeated Quincy 84-70. For the second time this season, the Bulldogs had two scorers over 20 points—Brodric Thomas led the way with 28 while Cade McKnight had 27, the two of them both went over 20 in the win over Missouri Southern State earlier this season. For McKnight, it was a new career high.
As the game began, Quincy grabbed a 7-6 lead but it all changed with a bad pass, intercepted by Thomas who went coast to coast for a breakaway dunk to give the Bulldogs their first lead at 8-7. Quincy answered with a three pointer from Tanner Stuckman to go back up 10-8, from there the Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run; culminating with a three pointer from the left elbow off the hand of Thomas to go up 15-10. Later Quincy pulled back within one at 17-16 when Thomas threw down another jam, which started a 10-2 run that put the Bulldogs up 27-18—which included back to back treys from Thomas. Overall, he had 15 of the first 25 points for Truman. A three point play from Cade McKnight gave the Bulldogs their largest lead of the half at 32-20, and from there the Bulldogs cruised into intermission with a 46-36 advantage.
To begin the second half, Quincy was determined to defend their home floor. They cut the Bulldogs lead to just five points at 48-43, but Turner Scott drained a deep three from 30 feet and built the Truman lead back to eight. With 15:22 to go, the Bulldogs expanded their lead to double digits at 55-45 as part of a 6-0 run and the lead remained in double digits for the rest of the contest. With 9:22 left in the half Quincy was on a 6-0 run and looked to be getting all the momentum their way, but Turner Scott drained a three from the left elbow that halted the run and kept Truman in command.
Truman shot 56.7% from the floor while holding Quincy to 48.1%. The Bulldogs hit 8-18 threes and held a 34-25 edge in rebounds.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Thursday as they take on Southern Indiana in Evansville with a 7:30 tip off.
