KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman women's swimming team came into the day ranked 20th in the Division II national rankings, and took on Division I Saint Louis University at Pershing Natatorium, falling just short as the Billikens won 111-94. Seniors Maggie Hickey, Mikayla Kempf, Lauren Massot, Megan Mensinger and Kaylee Sisson were honored in their last action at Pershing.
The team finished 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke with Natalie Galluzo taking first place (1:06.07), Ginny Schanck (1:06.89) taking second and Allison Garrett (1:07.65) in third place. In the 100 freestyle Lexi Poe took first place with a time of 54.28 and Garrett came in second at 54.44. Emma Brabham came in first place in the 50 meter free with a time of 24.28. Brabham also swam the first leg of the winning team in the 200 freestyle relay with Galluzo, Hickey and Sisson (1:48.00).
After the dual, coach Jerod Simek said, "Our team really stepped up early on to take the lead early against a tough D1 opponent. I know they wanted to send their seniors out on a high note and the energy and intensity was certainly there. I am incredibly proud of our seniors with everything they have accomplished in their time here at Truman!"
The team will be back in action for their final action of the regular season tomorrow as they take on Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill. at 1 p.m.
