KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The Truman Men rolled to victory Thursday night at home over Missouri S&T with a scorching performance from downtown--making 12-23 three pointers and shot 64.3% from the field en route to a 37 point win 93-56. It was the largest margin of victory in the series for the Bulldogs since 1982. In addition, the Bulldogs limited the Miners to 37.1% shooting from the field.
Truman never trailed in the game, the first basket was scored at the 18:02 mark of the first half--a three pointer from Elijah Hazekamp. Dylan Peeters hit two foul shots and Turner Scott hit a three to take the first eight points of the game. With 14:47 left in the half the Truman lead hit double digits at 12-2. S&T pulled within five at 15-10 but from there it was all Truman. Alex McQuinn started a 13-3 run with a bucket that would put the distance in the game that the Miners could not make up. At the intermission the game was 44-21 Bulldogs.
In the second half, Truman led by as many as 38 en route to victory. Masen Miller and Hunter Strait led the Bulldogs in points with 14 each, Mark Rogers and Owen Coburn each scored 11, McQuinn and Scott each hit double figures with ten. Miller led with four assists and Peeters led with seven rebounds.
At the end of the game, Devin Fields and Sam Lock each made their first appearance in a regular season game for Truman, and Lock recorded a steal. Jake Messer played for the first time since the 2018-19 season, Josh Ollendieck got his first career points with two foul shots made. Ben Cooper set a career high with five points--one made three pointer and got a breakaway layup following a steal. Eric Northweather grabbed his first career rebound as well.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Saturday afternoon as they take on Maryville in Pershing Arena. Tip off will be at 3:15 p.m.
