NOTES: Truman Women Host Jewell; Travel To Drury This Week

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The regular season grind gets in full swing with games against William Jewell and nationally-ranked Drury on tap this week. The Bulldogs are 4-2 on the young season after suffering an 83-78 loss at home to Southern Indiana on Sunday afternoon.
 
Truman led by 19 points in the first quarter but USI, who came in averaging only four three-pointers per game, knocked down six in the second quarter along to erase the deficit then overcame a 13-point margin with 6:04 to play to down the Bulldogs. Truman's last field goal came at the 8:15 mark of the fourth quarter as they misfired on their last eight field goal attempts. It matched a 2003 game against Missouri Western as the largest lead lost in a contest.
 
Despite the setback, the Bulldogs are third in the first release of the GLVC Points-Rating System that determines the eight spots available for the conferences' postseason tournament. Truman has a rating of 4.50 that weighs wins and losses, home and away against the other league schools. Southern Indiana and Drury sit atop the ratings with a 4.64 followed by the Bulldogs and Missouri-St. Louis at 3.58.
 
Sophomore Hannah Belanger is fifth in the conference in scoring and leading the Bulldogs at 19.8 points per game. Belanger broke out of a 1-for-11 slump from three in her last two games by hitting 6-of-15 against the Screaming Eagles for 25 points on Sunday. Belanger leads the GLVC and is second in Division II in three-pointers made per night a 3.67.
 
All five Truman starters are averaging over 25 minutes per game with four over 30 minutes. Katey Klucking is just behind Belanger in minutes per game at 34.2 and is third in scoring at 12.3 ppg. 
 
Katie Jaseckas is second in scoring at 16.2 per night and is second in the conference in blocked shots with 16. She is two back of Michalina Tomczak for second on the Truman all-time blocks list. 
 
Tiffany Davenport leads Division II in assists with 45 and is second in assists per game at 7.5. Davenport has not had fewer than six in a game this season She adds 7.5 points per game and has a 2.81 assists/turnover ratio.
 
Ellie Weltha was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field Sunday and recorded her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She leads the GLVC in field goal shooting at 62.5%, is second in rebounding at 11.0 and is first in defensive boards at 8.67.
 
Allison Thomas, Maya Mouton and Brioenne Burns are the other three Bulldogs to appear in all six games thus far. Thomas is 12-of-14 from the field (.857), Burns averages 16.5 minutes per game and has averaged 3.2 points per game and Mouton averages three rebounds and 2.3 points a game.
 
Scouting Report: William Jewell
The Cardinals fell 86-58 in their first game after the break to Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday…Ainsley Tolson led the Cardinals with 20 points…Kiara Bradley paces the Cardinals overall and is third in the conference in scoring at 21.9 points per game…Bradley is 15 points away from 1,000 for her Jewell career…the Cardinals are last in the GLVC in scoring offense at 61 points per game and last in shooting at 37% per game...Jewell was picked third with one first-place vote in the GLVC West Division.

Last Game w/William Jewell: The Bulldogs swept both meetings with the Cardinals last season, winning 89-62 in Liberty on January 2 and 72-65 in Pershing Arena a month later on February 1st. In the later outcome, Sloane Totta scored 23 points and Katie Jaseckas tallied 19. The Bulldogs raced out to a 22-13 first quarter lead but Jewell tied the game before half at 32 apiece. A seven-point different in third quarter scoring was the eventual difference in the game. Lea Finn led the Cardinals with 14 points.
 
In the earlier encounter, Katey Klucking led the charge with 20 Truman points and the Bulldogs knocked down 10 triples in the decisive 89-62 triumph. Ainsley Tolson scored 12 points for Jewell.
 
Series History: Truman State has won four of the last five games and 11 of 15 overall. They are a perfect 7-0 in games played in Pershing Arena. The Cardinals last win was an 86-72 victory on February 14th 2019.    

Scouting Report: Drury
The reigning conference juggernaut has a new wrinkle this year with new head coach and former Truman leader Amy Eagan at the helm…Eagan is the Bulldogs all-time leader in coaching wins with 111 in six seasons…the Lady Panthers are off to their normal dominating start at 7-0 and scoring at a clip of over 90 points per game…they once again lead in steals at 13.8/g and turnovers forced at 26.1/game…Paige Peterson has the only triple-double in Division II this season and is atop the conference scoring leaderboard at 22.9 points per game, she is second in assists…Drury has won 39 straight games dating back to the national semifinals in 2019, 57 straight home games (Emporia State in November 2016), 56 straight GLVC games (at Bellarmine 2018) and 64 straight conference home games (Indianapolis, January 2014).

Last Game w/Drury: In the Bulldogs third straight regular season trip to Springfield, Drury claimed a 77-56 win over Truman. The Lady Panthers built up a 10-point lead five minutes into the contest and led by as many as 28 in the first half. Truman tried to chip away but could get no closer than 17 points as Drury forced 30 turnovers. Former Drury standout Hailey Diestelkamp led the way with 26 points while Katie Jaseckas scored 18 for Truman.
 
Series History: It has been all Drury in the series that has started in 2002 with the Lady Panthers taking all 16 encounters. This will mark the seventh game out of the last 10 to be played on Drury's home court. The teams played on a neutral floor in the GLVC Tournamnet in 2019 but haven't played in Pershing Arena in Kirksville since January of 2018. The two closest games in the series were six-point Drury wins, in overtime at the NCAA Tournament hosted by Drury in 2014 and in the team's 2019 affair.     
 
Up Next: 
Truman will begin a stretch of eight of their next nine games at home starting next Thursday with Missouri S&T. The Quincy game that was postponed on December 20th was rescheduled for Tuesday, February 9th at 5:15 p.m. All Truman weeknight home games are scheduled for 5:15 p.m. and all games are void of spectators through January after a decree from the GLVC Council of Presidents.
