Bulldogs Rally For 2-1 Overtime Winner Over USI

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Trailing 1-0 with under seven minutes to play, the Truman Women's Soccer team got an equalizer from Faith Branson then won the match 2-1 over Southern Indiana with Hanna Hickey scoring less than a minute into the overtime period.

Avery Schone put USI up in the first half with a goal in the 21st minute of play. It was the first tally Truman had allowed in their first six league matches and only fifth goal allowed through eight games.

USI had a distinct advantage on shots with 10 in each half and 20 for the game, while Truman had the big ones that mattered late in the contest.

With seven minutes to play, Truman gained possession of the ball at midfield and Hickey found Branson inside the box. Branson lost her defender briefly and fired the shot to the far post where it found the back of the net to tie the game at one. It was the sixth goal of the season from Branson.

Just 54 seconds into overtime, Sydni Beeley crossed a ball that went from the left side all the way to the right where Hickey tracked it down. She beat a defender off the dribble to break free then squeezed the ball past the keeper for the winner. It was Hickey's third goal of the season.

The Bulldogs return to the Truman Soccer Park on Sunday to face McKendree University at 2:30 p.m.
