KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - McKendree's Riley Ross punched home the matches only goal in the 73rd minute off a free kick to down the Truman Women's Soccer team 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Following a push foul, the free kick was sent into the goal area where Kathleen Kenny touched it over to Ross for her first goal of the season to give the Bearcats the lead.
Truman had a flurry of chances in the waning minutes of the game with Chance Douglass having a pair of shots blocked by the McKendree defense.
Earlier in the match, Faith Branson was on the doorstep but Mercedes King made the stop and the defense was able to block a second attempt by Branson.
Later, Beth Hopwood made a stop after a crossing pass found the foot of Anna Stiffler. Hopwood had to range across the goal area to make the save.
The shots were fairly even with eight for McKendree and nine for Truman while four were on net for the Bearcats and three for the Bulldogs.
Truman drops to 4-3-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the GLVC while McKendree improves to 7-1-2 and 5-1-1 in the league.
The Bulldogs will play their next two matches on the road starting on Friday in Romeoville, Illinois against Lewis then heading to the University of Indianapolis on Sunday. Friday's match kicks off at 5:30 p.m.
