EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The Truman Volleyball team continued its road swing on Friday night at Southern Indiana, and the reigning GLVC Champion Screaming Eagles downed the Bulldogs 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-20).
Truman had a 4-2 lead early on in the first set, following a 3-0 spurt that included a kill from Hanna Berry and an ace from Emma Wollert. But USI answered with four straight and took the lead, and did not trail for the rest of the set. Truman got within one point at 6-5, but could not come any closer the rest of the way. Late in the set the Bulldogs gained momentum with a 4-0 run down 22-15, with Morgan Smith picking up an ace. But the run was stopped there.
In the second set, it was USI who got off to the fast start as they took the first four points of the set. From there, the Bulldogs could not dig out of the hole as USI went up 2-0 in the match.
Ellie Kaat began the third set with one of her team high five kills, but the Screaming Eagles reeled off the next five points to put Truman in a 5-1 hole. Berry had another kill to make it 7-4 but the Bulldogs could not draw any closer the rest of the set as USI won the set and the match.
Kaat led with five kills while Rachel DeFries led with seven assists and Smith tallied ten digs and had two of the team's three aces.
The Bulldogs will be back on the road at McKendree on Saturday to wrap up their three match road swing before coming home to take on Southwest Baptist on Tuesday.
