LEBANON, Ill.—The Truman Volleyball team ended their road stretch with a 3-1 loss (25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 26-24) at McKendree. Katy Motz had a double-double with 17 assists and 11 digs while Ellie Kaat led the team with 13 kills, and Allison Beaton was second on the team with nine kills. Molly McGurn led with 17 digs.
In the first set, the two teams seesawed back and forth and Truman held an early 5-4 lead after a 3-0 run that included two kills from Hanna Berry. McKendree took the lead again at 9-7, then Truman reeled off three straight to take back the lead at 10-9. The middle of the set was tight but McKendree eventually took a 21-17 lead and finished out the set to go up 1-0.
McKendree scored the first three of the second set, but Truman answered with three straight to promptly even the set. Kaat had two kills in the run. Another 3-0 run put Truman up 6-4 later in the set, and the two teams were tight throughout the set. A 3-0 run later in the set put the Bulldogs up 14-12 and from there Truman would not trail again.
With the match in the balance, the third set tilted toward the Bulldogs early as Truman jumped out to a 5-2 lead. McKendree tied it up at five all but then a 4-1 run for Truman put the Bulldogs up 9-6. Later in the set. Later on, a 5-0 run for Truman put them up 17-12 as Morgan Smith had an ace and a kill in the stretch. But McKendree would rally back from a 23 all tie the Bearcats took the final two points to go up 2-1 in the match.
Much like the first three sets, the fourth set was tight throughout. Each time one team would get a lead, the other team would answer. Finally, a 3-0 run for the Bulldogs tied the set at 22. The set would then be tied at 23 before McKendree had match point. A kill from Beaton kept the Bulldogs alive, but two straight points for the Bearcats ended the match.
The Bulldogs return home on Tuesday for a midweek contest against Southwest Baptist. First serve at 7 PM at Pershing Arena.
