Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Truman Notches Fourth Straight Win With 2-1 Victory At Southwest Baptist

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Bulldog Women's Soccer team grabbed another three points in a 2-1 victory at Southwest Baptist on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs will close out the regular season on Sunday at Rockhurst University.

Truman grabbed the early lead on a nominee for "Goal of the Year". The play developed in the left corner when Olivia Morris gained possession of the ball. She fed a pass out to Chance Douglas who in turn lobbed an attack. Hanna Hickey flicked the ball with her head backwards that found Sydni Beeley, who then took the pass in stride and beat keeper Rylie Salyers to her low left side for the score in the 7th minute of play. It was Beeley's first goal of the season.

The Bearcats drew even with the Bulldogs just before half. A free kick at midfield led to a shot from Allyson Leiber from just inside the 18. That shot floated and grazed off the crossbar as Beth Hopwood reached up to knock it away. The ball landed at the feet of Reagan Edwards, who was on the doorstep to tap it in for the equalizer in the 36th minute.

The Bulldogs were able to recapture the lead on an innocent looking shot off the left wing. Douglass was avoiding a defender in the corner, came out about five yards, and crossed a pass at an odd angle toward the middle. The ball bounced through traffic before catching the far side post and going across the line and in. It was Douglass' third goal of the season and came in the 55th minute.

The Truman defense was able to hold off the mounting pressure applied by SBU later in the second half as the Bearcats were seeking to tie the game back up. The Bulldogs hit two crossbars in the final minute.

Shots on goal were in favor of Truman 11-2.

The GLVC altered their method of selecting postseason teams since not all regular season games will be completed. Instead of a straight number of points earned in the conference season, the league has switched to a point per game average to rank the order for the upcoming conference postseason tournament. Truman is currently in fourth position behind McKendree, Drury and Indianapolis. The Greyhounds have two road matches starting tonight at Lindenwood and on Sunday at Missouri-St. Louis.
