KIRKSVILLE, Mo.—The Truman Basketball team won its fourth in a row Wednesday afternoon as they defeated Grand View (Iowa) 86-59. Elijah Hazekamp had a big day with 21 points and nine rebounds, both of which led the team. Eric Northweather set new career highs with 14 points and six rebounds, while Cade McKnight also reached double figures with 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. Hunter Strait led the team with six assists.
Out of the gates, Grand View held a small advantage at 10-6. But with 13:50 left in the half, Hazekamp hit his first three pointer and then a three point play on the following possession by the Truman swingman gave the Bulldogs a 12-10 lead and they would not trail the rest of the game. It was part of a 12-0 run by the Bulldogs, which Hazekamp scored nine points in, with Masen Miller draining a three as well. GVU cut the lead to 20-16, but a 7-0 run by Truman made the lead double digits as Hazekamp completed another three point play to begin the run. Overall, Hazekamp scored 16 points in the first half as Truman led 33-21 at the intermission.
In the second half, Truman's offense was unstoppable as they made 21-33 shots (63.7%) from the field and made 8-13 three pointers (61.5%). It was part of a 53 point half that saw Truman expand their lead to a 27 point margin of victory. Truman was ahead by double digits the entire half, making their lead greater than 20 for the first time with a three by Hazekamp at the 10:03 mark. Truman's biggest lead was 30 points following a three pointer by Sam Lock with 55 seconds left in the game.
The Bulldogs will have a busy week this coming week as they have four games, starting with a Sunday home game against Lindenwood. Tip off will be at 3:15 against the Lions.
