KIRKSVILLE, Mo.--The sixth ranked Truman Men's Basketball team won their ninth straight game Saturday as they downed Quincy 74-68. Dylan Peeters led the way with 16 points and was one of four Bulldogs in double figures (Cade McKnight 14, Hunter Strait 12 and Masen Miller 10). Elijah Hazekamp led in rebounds with ten and Turner Scott led with six assists. The game went back and forth with eight ties and 13 lead changes.
Five points was the biggest lead of the half for either side. Truman led 32-27 with 3:21 to go following a jumper from Peeters. Quincy quickly cut that lead back down to one at 32-31 but Strait answered with a make from the line and then a jumper to push the lead back to four points. Tanner Stuckman answered with a three for Quincy (led all scorers with 24) and then both teams made another foul shot in the last minute to make it 36-35 Bulldogs heading into the locker room.
The second half was nip and tuck, just like the first. Truman remained in front until the 15:12 mark when the Hawks tied it at 45. At 14:19 Stuckman hit a three pointer to give Quincy their first lead of the second half, and they held the lead through the middle of the second half. With 7:19 to go, Quincy led 62-55. But the Bulldogs were just getting started.
McKnight drained a three pointer to cut the lead to four points, part of seven unanswered points for the Bulldogs--all from McKnight. The game was tied at 62, and Quincy took a timeout. Quincy took back the lead at 64-62 but Miller drained a three for Truman to take back the lead at 65-64. With 1:53 to go, Scott drilled a jumper to give Truman a three point lead at 69-66. After a bucket from Quincy, Miller scored the last five points of the game to bring the score to its conclusion at 74-68.
The Bulldogs wrap up their road swing on Monday afternoon as they take on Southern Indiana in Evansville. Tip off will be at 3:00 p.m. central time.
