EVANSVILLE - The Bulldog Softball team could not follow up a dramatic comeback in game one as they fell in game two to split a conference doubleheader to Southern Indiana on Sunday.

Down 6-1 after two innings and down to their final out in the game, the Truman Softball team scored five times to take the opener 10-7.

USI scored four in the first and two more in the second and were in control after two innings of play.

With one out in the third, Brieanna Klein doubled in Cameryn Patterson for her second RBI of the game and later Lauren Bowman singled to cut the lead to 6-3.

Callie Unrein took advantage of an error and drove in Klein to trim the lead to 6-4 in the fifth.

The Screaming Eagles got a run back in their half of the fifth.

Patterson scored Emma Walbert with one-out in the sixth to chase starter Allie Godin. Maddie Duncan retired the next two Truman hitters to strand the tying runs on base.

Maria McGonegle started the seventh with a single to right and Unrein drew a walk after fouling off three pitches with a full count. The next two batters struck out.

Shelby Webster pinch hit and tied the game with a clutch double to center.

Ellie Weltha broke the tie as she followed with a single up the middle scoring pinch runner Macy Taylor. Patterson then uncorked a home run to left for the 10-7 lead. It was her third home run of the season.

Klein pitched the final two innings in relief and retired USI in order for the victory.

Game two saw USI score 10 runs in the first two innings and this time they held the Bulldogs quiet to earn the 10-1 victory in five frames.

The Screaming Eagles plated a trio of runs in the first and hung seven on the scoreboard in the second inning.

Truman's lone tally came on a sac fly to center off of Bowman's bat to push Patterson across the dish in the fourth. The Bulldogs had just four hits in the nightcap.

Next up will be a doubleheader in Springfield, Missouri at Drury on Saturday.
